The Magic of Unicorns and Fairies

Last Sunday morning Akemi helped Silvina make some pancakes. She worked up an appetite mixing the ingredients and checking the texture of the flour, so after her work was done she sat at the table waiting for the fruits of her labour.

The Diego DVD was still playing in the adjacent room and she was twisting her head around to steal glimpses of his rescue mission.   I took the opportunity to throw a pancake on her plate and holler "Wow, did you see that?".

She saw the pancake flop on her plate apparently out of no where.   Silvina was still in the kitchen cooking the rest of the pancakes and there were no other pancakes to be seen.  Surprised, she asked "Who did that?". I answered "I don't know, it just flew there". She got so excited and repeated "Wow, did you see that! The pancake flew on my plate!". Then somehow she decided that it must have been a unicorn that put the pancake on her plate.

Later, Silvina made a pancake shaped like a star and a duck and told her that a fairy made them for her. She was beside herself that these magical creatures were treating her so kindly.  The true magic for me is her innocent belief and genuine appreciation that anything is possible.

The Making of Kitty Kat

On Monday we went to the harbourfront to take part in their Family Day activities.  Akemi was talking about getting her face painted like a kitty kat before we even left the house.  The events were poorly organized.  There was one guy there doing the face painting and the line was well over an hour long.

Akemi waited with us and probably more patiently than us.  When it came to her turn to get her face painted, she tried her best to keep still and endure the ticklish brush.  In the end I would have to say that the wait was worth it.

Family Day Weekend

We did a bunch of things on the long weekend.

On Sunday we went to the ROM.  They have a monument for donors that lit up when you touched it.  She got a kick out of that.

We saw a movie about sea monsters that she was less impressed with.  Her favorite part was when the pterodactyls flew by.

She usually likes to dig for the dinosaur bones and that day was no exception.  She also got to dress up as a princess, a dragon, and a triceratops.

Tiny Dancer

Don't know what's with the video problem.  Anyway, here are some pictures from last month that I didn't get around to posting.  Akemi got a tutu from her cousin Risa and took it out for a spin

Skating Lessons

I had some trouble uploading the video of her skating the other day.  Here are a couple of clips.

Rare skating footage

Today I went to see Akemi's skating class. As seen in these pictures her trainer is lacing her up as she prepares for the main event.

Apparently the photojournalist was interfering with her meditation and she barked some orders for him to retreat.

Getting closer to game time...Doubt is creeping in...Does she have what it takes to deliver the goods?

Confidence is building. Her mind is focused. She knows what she has to do.

The girls are ready to charge the ice.

The enforcer patrols her territory...

And has a lot of fun!
The reason why this footage is rare is because there is a new city bylaw that prevents pictures in public facilities.  It started at the pools and has now moved to the rinks.  I can understand the issue with the pools, but I don't know what the deal is with the rinks.  I hardly got started taking pictures when I had to stop.  Oh well, much better to watch in person anyway.
