Well, it was bound to happen sometime. Yesterday evening I hear Silvina call me from upstairs. Her tone was different from normal so I rushed up to see what was going on. She was making her way to the washroom trying to soothe Akemi with comforting remarks, and in passing told me to clean up the room. I noticed that she had some orange gunk all over her. I looked at Akemi and quickly realized the source of it.
Have you ever refilled a soap dispenser with one of those jumbo refill containers? When you start to pour, the soap fills the entire mouth of the container before glubbing out in an unsteady stream hitting or missing the target below. Inevitably some slippery stuff sneaks out onto the neck of the container - just enough to require clean up.
Anyway, the first round subsided. I wiped up the mess I could see in the hallway and in Akemi's room, while Silvina cleaned up Akemi and took her into our room to feed. We looked at our library of baby books to see what they had to say. Her temperature was fine and she seemed to be back in good spirits when round two started. Luckily it was not in our bed, but much of it landed on Silvina. After a small round three in the living room I called Telehealth just to be safe. I heard that if these things continue that you should go to the hospital.
On their advice I made a trip to a 24 hour pharmacy to get this water-like stuff to guard against dehydratation. We didn't have to use it though. That night all three of us slept in the same bed for the first time since her first few weeks of life. Silvina said that she hardly slept because she was almost falling off the bed, although I seemed to have enough room. I remembered how uncomfortable I was the last time we all slept together in the same bed with a confangled contraption for Akemi. I thought this was an improvement.
Today Akemi seemed to be in good shape. The doctor said to keep an eye though because sometimes it reoccurs in the following days. Chalk another one up to experience.
Seems like everyone and their brother has a blog, so I decided to set one up too. This one is about my new daughter Nina Akemi.

Adventures in Eating
We were one happy family this morning having breakfast when I look over at Akemi and noticed she had food all around her eye. I can only guess that she wanted a better look at what she was eating or that she was looking for cucumber slices and could only find cereal. Vanity at such a young age.In the afternoon Silvina was trying a new food immersion technique. I wasn't there to witness it, but from the pictures I gather that you pour the food on the floor and rub the baby into it. That way whatever doesn't go in the mouth is absorbed through the skin. After the experience it looked like Akemi was poised to say her first real word! But alas, it was only a fart and she laughed at our foolishness.
